Welcome to the heart of creativity and craftsmanship! Today, we explore my toymaker's shop, where wooden toys and puzzles come to life in a symphony of sawdust and imagination. The accompanying collage illustrates the journey of these handmade treasures, from raw wood to finished playthings.

 

The Art of Creation

The workshop is filled with activity. A colorful rooster puzzle, featuring vibrant red, yellow, and orange pieces, stands proudly on a workbench, ready to challenge young minds. Nearby, a dinosaur takes shape, its wooden form emerging smoothly from the scroll saw. Each piece tells a story of careful cutting, sanding, and assembly, reflecting hours of dedication.

 

Stages of Craftsmanship

The collage showcases different stages of my crafting process. I created a purple cow puzzle for my grandson. A template of a triceratops sits on a cutting mat, guiding my next cut with meticulous precision. Meanwhile, a scroll saw carves intricate designs into a dinosaur silhouette, while clamps hold a piece securely in place as it dries. These snapshots highlight the blend of tradition and innovation that defines my craft.

 

Tools of the Trade

The workshop buzzes with activity, filled with tools such as scroll saws, clamps, and sanding blocks, each serving an important purpose. A Shopsmith belt sander is utilized for nearly every toy, and currently, a toy stegosaurus cutout is on display. The air is infused with the scent of freshly cut wood and shellac, highlighting the hands-on nature of this craft.

 

Joy in Every Piece

From a tall Triceratops to a simple wooden Stegosaurus cutout awaiting its final touches, each toy radiates joy. These handcrafted pieces are more than just playthings; they are heirlooms made with care, designed to inspire laughter and learning in homes everywhere.

But Now I've made a lot of these little wooden toy trucks. Each one is carefully cut on my scroll saw and hand-sanded until they are smooth to the touch. Any toys with no repairable defects are dent to the designer kindling pile. My goal is to make toys as high quality as I possibly can. This version of the truck is hand finished with clear shellac and hand-rubbed, waxed, and polished to a satin finish. These are some of my favorite toys to make. The simple design lends itself to extensive variation. A cute vintage style kids gift for boys or girls. Handmade and hand-finished to perfection.
