Handmade in my shop from quality hardwood, the Cougar Family Stacker Puzzle features a mom, dad, and babies. Each piece is shaped, sanded smooth, and  finished.

The puzzle captures the spirit of the mountain lion, also known as the cougar or panther. I hand-shape every part from natural wood, then sand all edges thoroughly to remove any sharpness. For the finish, I apply a custom blend of USP-grade mineral oil, beeswax, and carnauba wax while hot. This process ensures deep penetration and creates a durable, food-safe surface that highlights the wood’s natural beauty.

Handmade Lion/Panther Family Stacking Puzzle In The Toymaker's Shop

I have a large project I'm working on making Animal Family Puzzles. This panther/lion family version is fresh off the scroll saw with the pattern still attached. The wood is covered with shelf liner, and the pattern is attached with spray adhesive.

The shelf liner is an experiment looking for a cheaper, easier method to using Blue 3M Painter Tape. I'm not happy with the shelf liner. I find the shelf liner challenging to apply, and it will sometimes leave a residue that I must remove with solvents. If I need to use solvents, then I might as well stick the pattern directly to the wood and use solvent to remove it.
