Large Custom Order Of Cutouts Completed

 

Custom order is all done, and waiting for the solvent I use to remove the glue evaporates. I make paper patterns using Gimp and Inkscape, then mount them to the wood using spray adhesive. There is some adhesive residue left on the wood that I remove with the appropriate solvent, which needs to dry until the odor is gone before I can pack for shipping.

Animal Cutouts And A Tray Puzzle I Made In The '80s

 

I made several of the elephant puzzles and a bucket full of animal cutouts. I learned to use my AMT scroll saw, cutting out animal shapes. These are still in use today. Wood toys can last a long time.

Handmade Wood Animal Cutouts Made From Leftover Cutoffs

Lots of animal cutouts are stored in jars. I make these from cutoffs that are generally too small to use for anything else. Kids love these little animals. My grandson Odin has a collection of them. I have been adding to the pattern collection and plan to post them all in my Etsy shop. There are a few there now. More to come later.

Tropical Bird Family Stacking Puzzle In The Shop Waiting For Sanding

I cut these from 1x6 poplar. After sanding, I will finish the puzzle with a shop-made blend of mineral oil and waxes. I'm considering painting the heart red, but I haven't made up my mind yet.

 

Birds for Birdhouse Christmas Ornaments

I make compound-cut (3D) miniature birdhouse Christmas ornaments. This picture is a batch of birds cut from other project leftovers. Many of these birds are cut from 3/4-inch stock, and then I resaw them to the proper thickness.

Fix or Prevent Clogged Spray Can Nozzles By Soaking In Solvent

 

 

 

After each use, I remove the nozzle and drop it into mineral spirits. I keep several in the jar, and if I have an issue, I swap nozzles. I use 3M 77, but this should work with anything as long as you choose the appropriate solvent.

I retrieve the nozzle with hemostats and dry the excess with a bit of paper towel to use a nozzle. Occasionally I will have a tiny bit of mineral spirits come out of the nozzle the first time I press it, but it is not enough to make a difference.

I've never had a nozzle on the 3M 77 clog, but it does tend to build up on the nozzle and affect the spray pattern.

I make this simple 3-piece puzzle in my Toymakers Shop using traditional woodworking tools. This puzzle was hand-cut by me with my scroll saw.  I carefully sanded it smooth and finished it with mineral oil & beeswax.
