My Itty Bitty Animal Collection

I crafted a wooden toy kitten using my shop's traditional woodworking tools and techniques. This little feline is designed to stand independently, making it perfect for stacking with other toys from my Itty Bitty Animal Collection.

These aren't just any toys; they're generational pieces that can last for many years. The first ones I made over forty years ago are still in use, and a second generation of children now enjoys them. Small kids love playing with them.

The kitten measures about 2.5 inches, but I can create additional sizes by custom order. It's a versatile piece that can be painted, stained, or left unfinished, depending on your preference. It could also make stacking toys, mobiles, or even puppets.

My Shop

In this creative project, mini gnomes are crafted from leftover wood pieces typically discarded as designer kindling. This experiment showcases the potential of repurposing scrap materials that remain after making puzzles and other intricate designs. With an abundance of these wooden remnants, producing these charming gnomes proved to be practical.

To aid in the process, spring clamps from Harbor Freight Tools are utilized. I have about 200 of these handy clamps; they provide the perfect clamping support for assembling the gnomes. This project transforms waste into delightful gnomes.

I crafted this wooden toy cat from unfinished wood in my toymaker’s shop. After sanding it smooth, the result is a charming kitten that stands freely and makes an excellent stacking toy, especially when paired with others from my Itty Bitty Animal Collection.

My grandkids enjoy stacking these small animal cutouts and find creative ways to play with them, often choosing them over other toys I’ve made. It’s rewarding to see how much joy they bring to children, spanning generations of play.

Since I started making these toys in 1985, many of them are still in use today and likely will be loved by great-grandchildren in the future.

My Online Shop

I have created a handmade wooden clock from poplar wood, and it is now ready for staining and adding a base. I've crafted several of these as gifts. You'll need a flat piece of 1x12 lumber to make the clock, which can sometimes be hard to find. Instead of cutting the clock opening with a scroll saw, it's more effective to start by drilling the hole using a Forstner bit. If I try to drill after cutting, I could easily break the piece if the bit unexpectedly catches. It may be available in my shop if I figure out how to ship it without it getting broken.
