For years, I’ve been transforming small scraps of wood into whimsical treasures in my toymaker’s shop. I began with a scroll saw and learned the craft of making animal cutouts for my kids. Over time, I honed my skills, and the giraffe became a favorite among the little ones. Each giraffe starts as a small cutoff, a leftover piece from another project in my shop. I carefully shape the wood using my scroll saw, sand it smooth, and prepare it for painting or custom finishes. The result is a sturdy, freestanding giraffe, approximately 3-3/4 inches tall, 2-1/8 inches long, and 3/4 inch thick (though dimensions may vary slightly). The wood type and color depend on what I have on hand; pine, oak, or poplar are typically available. This variability ensures every piece is unique, with its natural grain and character.
Each giraffe is at least 1/2 inch thick, making it perfect for small hands to grasp and stack. Whether used as a standalone toy or paired with other animals from the Itty Bitty Animal Collection, these giraffes encourage creativity and open-ended play.
