For years, I’ve been transforming small scraps of wood into whimsical treasures in my toymaker’s shop. One of my favorite creations is the miniature wooden giraffe cutout, a freestanding, stackable toy that sparks joy in young children and adds a touch of handmade charm to any playtime. I began with a scroll saw and learned the craft of making animal cutouts for my kids. Over time, I honed my skills, and the giraffe became a favorite among the little ones. The wood type and color depend on what I have on hand; pine, oak, or poplar are typically available. This variability ensures every piece is unique, with its natural grain and character.
 
Each giraffe is at least 1/2 inch thick, making it perfect for small hands to grasp and stack. Play Pal Tractor Trailer Semi Truck Some Variations

 

Part of my grandsons truck collection.

Here are a few variations of the Play Pal Trailer Truck. These are all in my grandson's collection. Inspired by his complaint about the first one, everything he tried to put on it fell off. It was a flatbed trailer similar to the one front and center. You can easily see.

I like the dual wheels much better than the singles, which never looked right.

The second change I made was to relocate the hole for the hitch pin so it was between the axles. Changing the location lets me use a longer dowel, and the length of the dowel is less critical.

I rounded the front of the trailer so the truck could make 90-degree turns. Originally I clipped the corners at 45 degrees to facilitate this, but I didn't like the look of it.
