In my workshop, I have a stack of unfinished wooden spider cutouts, ready for transformation. I cut each piece with care, crafting them to a robust 3/4-inch thickness and layering the wood grain to give them character and durability. I place a white paper pattern on the top spider to guide the design and ensure every cut is precise.

 

Unlike mass-produced plywood pieces cut by CNC lasers, which often display unsightly burnt edges, my spiders are meticulously hand-cut from solid wood and stand on their own without support.

 This year, I've put my woodworking skills to work, crafting some delightful unfinished Halloween bats that are perfect for adding a spooky touch to your home.

These bats are made from 3/4-inch thick wood, giving them a sturdy feel that makes them quite special compared to many of the thinner cutouts you often find. Each bat has been carefully sanded with 220-grit sandpaper, ensuring they're smooth and primed for your creative touch—whether that involves painting, staining, or even adding some fun embellishments. What's really great about these designs is that they are freestanding, making them versatile for use in crafts or as toys!

All of these items are handmade from 3/4inch wood in my toy maker's shop using a scroll saw. Each piece is designed to be painted and used as Halloween decor; however, many grandchildren enjoy using them as toys.

I cut the Halloween witch on my EX21 scroll saw. The precision of the saw allows for intricate designs. Alongside the witch, I've crafted themed cutouts, including Jack-o-lanterns, spiders, scary cats, and skulls.

I made this unfinished 3/4-inch thick Halloween Bat in my shop using traditional woodworking tools. It has been lightly sanded with 220 grit sandpaper and is ready to be painted. Unlike many thinner cutouts, these are freestanding and make good pretend toys.

I made the first batch of these for my grandson, Odin. He is crazy about anything Halloween-related. They are Halloween decorations, but for my grandson, they are toys. He builds haunted houses from blocks and uses them for occupants.
