| Wood Toy Spider Cutout On My EX21 Scroll Saw |
The wood is pine. Before applying the pattern, I sanded it. I use Inkscape to create the patterns and print them on a laser printer. My adhesive of choice is 3M77, which lets the patterns stick directly to the wood. Removing the patterns is simple: I use mineral spirits, which leaves the wood surface undamaged—unlike blue painter's tape. After the patterns are applied, I cut the boards into smaller pieces with a miter saw, placing one spider per piece. While cutting the patterns apart is optional, I prefer working with smaller pieces and find rectangular cuts easier to handle later.
Once the adhesive is removed, the spiders are sanded again with a sanding mop, a belt sander, and a random-orbit sander.
