I carefully sand all the parts, removing any sharp edges. The puzzle is finished with a custom blend of USP Grade Mineral Oil, Beeswax, and carnauba wax that I apply hot to get deep penetration and durability. The puzzle is freestanding and can sit easily on a shelf, window sill, or 3/4-inch or wider door frame. The individual parts make good pretend toys. I have a large project I'm working on making Animal Family Puzzles. This panther/lion family version is fresh off the scroll saw with the pattern still attached. The wood is covered with shelf liner, and the pattern is attached with spray adhesive. The shelf liner is an experiment looking for a cheaper, easier method to using Blue 3M Painter Tape. I'm not happy with the shelf liner. I find the shelf liner challenging to apply, and it will sometimes leave a residue that I must remove with solvents.
