This Hot Rod Freaky Ford Sedan is one of my first cars in this series. I made the car body from two layers of 3/4-inch MDF glued together. As you can see from the photo, it is possible to get a smooth finish on MDF. Much easier than wood. However, many, if not most of my customers, like to see the wood grain on handmade toys. I am torn between natural wood, clear finishes, and paint. Paint is much more challenging to apply than any of the others. It is not uncommon
for the painting to take more time than all of the toys put together.

A handcrafted '32 Sedan Hot Rod I made in my Toymakers Shop using traditional woodworking tools. The body, exhaust pipes, and axle hubs are painted with acrylic paint. The wheels are finished with hand-brushed shellac.
