I prefer to use the red 3M Scotch Brite pads for this. It gets into tight places easily and lasts a long time. This process repeats until I am happy with the finish. If I had a large enough piece of clear wood, I would have cut all the pieces at the same time like I would a puzzle, ensuring that the pieces would fit.
